Austin Events: A Mix of History and Fun

This annual musical event is held in Waterloo Park and takes place on the second weekend in November each year. The musical acts are all amateur acts looking for some instant exposure. In addition to the music, there are also t-shirts and gifts for sale. The Fun Fun Fun Fest has been around since the 80s and mainly features punk music. It is a very popular event among young people.

Texas Bluegrass Festival

Texas Bluegrass is a genre of music in its own right and is celebrated every year at the Texas Bluegrass Festival in Scholtz Garten. There is a small entrance fee to access the festival but it is open to the general public. In addition to hearing some of the best Texas bluegrass music, you can also partake in the food and drinks being served. The Texas Bluegrass Festival takes place every year on the second weekend of February.

Comedy Fest

The Cap City Comedy Club holds an annual Comedy Fest on the first Saturday in March each year. Everyone can take part in this day-long comedy fest of undiscovered talent. This is open to the public, although there is an entrance fee.

Alamo Memorial Days

On Memorial Day weekend, you may want to head to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum so you can learn about the Alamo Battle and also watch battle reenactments. The Battle of the Alamo was where the legendary frontiersman, Davy Crockett, was killed. The Alamo Memorial Days also include food and Texas music.

The Annual Tex-Mex Festival and Parade

Independence Day is fun in Austin, Texas, and you can enjoy American Independence Day with the Tex Mex Festival and parade. This festival blends both Texan and Mexican cultures in food, music, and even floats. It turns it into one big party right in the heart of Austin. In the evening, there are also fireworks shows. If you’ve never tried Tex-Mex food, you’re in for a treat when you visit Texas.

Austin Wildflower Show.

The annual Austin Wildflower Show is held at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Wildflowers are grown in these gardens and are in full bloom on the third weekend of June. Although the centre is open year round, this annual event allows you to enjoy the Wildflower Show and see some of the most colourful cultivated wildflowers.

Haunted Austin!

If you visit the city of Austin in the month of October, you will have a really fun time. The annual Haunted Austin event includes several haunted houses and a Halloween parade down the middle street. On weekends, there are also craft fairs in the centre square to celebrate the arrival of the fall season.
